Georgia Pre-K Students One Step Closer on Path to College as Winners of Statewide Pre-K Sweepstakes

Jun 23, 2022

While four Georgia Pre-K students may just be starting on their educational path, each recently focused on their continued education and future goals. The four students were winners of the Path from Pre-K to College Sweepstakes, and each was awarded $1,529 for their Path2College 529 Plan college savings account. Each winner’s school was also awarded $1,529.

The four winners were:

  • Clara Jakic of Lawrenceville who attended Maxwell High School Pre-K
  • Messiah Williams of Griffin who attended Moore Elementary School Pre-K
  • Ryan Blair of Saint Marys who attended Kings Bay Child Development Center
  • Daniel Craft of Shellman who attended Southwest Georgia Stem Charter School

The Path2College 529 Plan and the Department of Early Care and Learning (DECAL) partner each year to promote the importance of continued education and financial planning to help Georgia children realize their dreams.

“We want to get kids dreaming about their future at a young age and parents thinking about how to help them achieve those dreams,” said Georgia Student Finance Commission President Lynne Riley. “Through our partnership with DECAL, we are able to do just that with a contribution to their college savings.”

The four children — one in Metro Atlanta, Southeast, North and South Georgia — were randomly selected as winners of the sweepstakes.

“Congratulations to this year’s winners of the Pre-K to College Sweepstakes,” said DECAL Commissioner Amy M. Jacobs. “University, college, or technical college may seem a long way off, but now is the time for families to begin contributing to The Path2College 529 Plan that will help pay for their children’s post-secondary experience. I thank the Georgia Student Finance Commission for sponsoring this annual event that highlights the importance of saving today for their children’s tomorrows.”
